The practice is rarely found in the warehousing industry. However in the building trades, both labor unions and management usually recognize the value of apprentices. Plumbers and electricians are two examples. Apprenticeship is more common in Germany and other places overseas. Yet in the USA there is a decline in the number of apprenticeship programs.
Yet progressive warehouse managers could buck the trend. If your HR departments says a college degree is necessary, it is time to challenge this requirement. Skills are more important than college degrees, and skills can be acquired as an apprentice on the job.
