Effective leaders work in a culture of participation, but the opposite is a culture of silence. Here are the danger signs:
- When you lead a group meeting, none of the participants will disagree with you.
- Sometimes you ignore a person who presents a new idea.
- When you ask for input, one or more of your staff will respond with a blank look.
- Ask for opinions at every meeting, and be sure your people know that you are eager to hear their views.
