How Do You Differentiate
Your Warehouse

Differentiation is what makes your warehousing operation different from others. Some refer to this as the "unique selling proposition" that validates a prospective client's reason to select your operation.

There are two ways to do achieve clear differentiation — culture and innovation.

Any warehousing organization is only as good as its employees, so it's crucial to hire for a cultural fit rather than an experience fit. New employees must fit the organization's current values and culture. Your culture should promote passionate people and oppose unhappy people. If a new hire does not fit into your culture, quick correction is essential.

Logistics service providers are sometimes accused of lacking innovation. Yet innovation can and should be part of your corporate culture. Have you found ways to reward people for trying something new? Are your people encouraged to experiment, even when the experiment is a failure? Can you point to significant steps in innovation taken by your people in the last three years? Innovation is really a state of mind and, when you recognize its value, it will happen naturally.

Value differentiation.
