There are two kinds of leaders, reactive and proactive. The reactive leader is always too busy, and part of the busy-ness is micromanaging. Reactive leaders never stop talking about the level of “busy-ness.”
In contrast, the proactive leader works at being effective rather than busy. Free of distraction, the proactive leadership provides the energy to support those critical goals that will drive success. Those who are “too busy” are usually mismanaging time, keeping poor priorities, and doing the wrong things.
Instead of micromanaging, the proactive leader delegates more to others, implementing accountability and rewarding those direct reports who succeed. Part of this is maintaining and implementing a “stop doing” list and delegating tasks that could be better done by others.
Finally, the proactive leader stops talking about being busy. Instead, the concentration is on getting things done.
